I congratulate Senator Obama on winning the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States of America. It is historic. It is a great step towards creating a complete interracial democracy.
Just a few short years ago in many places around this country, people could not register to vote because of the color of their skin. And it was those states in the Deep South, and other states, that made this day possible. Those who stood up, those who sat-in, those who marched, who were beaten, who were killed, they are very proud.
Many young people struggled to help bring this day about. African Americans, Latinos, Asians, Whites, people of all colors voted in record numbers. It is a movement, a spiritual event. Senator Obama is the embodiment of the hopes, dreams and aspirations of a lot of Americans. He represents something different, something new. But he also represents a long line of individuals who carry the aspirations of the people.
