Rep. John Lewis on Biden for VP

“I am pleased," said Rep. John Lewis, "that Sen. Barack Obama has added my good friend and colleague Sen. Joe Biden to the ticket. Senator Biden is in a class by himself. He is an expert on foreign policy, whose heart and values are firmly rooted with the people he represents. He is a leader who has worked for decades in Washington, but his home has always remained with his constituents in Delaware. He is uniquely suited and well-qualified to serve as Sen. Obama’s partner in the urgent mission to bring the change Americans are seeking, restoring domestic stability and returning this nation to its place as an international leader.”

“Mother Nature has no better friend in Congress than John Lewis,” said Georgia Sierra Club Political Committee Chair Norman Slawsky.

“The Sierra Club was one of the first organizations to endorse John Lewis when he first ran for Congress,” Slawsky said. “We have continued to endorse John Lewis’ candidacy since then because of his dedication to preserving and protecting the environment.”

It is a Movement, a Spiritual Event

I congratulate Senator Obama on winning the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States of America. It is historic. It is a great step towards creating a complete interracial democracy.

Just a few short years ago in many places around this country, people could not register to vote because of the color of their skin. And it was those states in the Deep South, and other states, that made this day possible. Those who stood up, those who sat-in, those who marched, who were beaten, who were killed, they are very proud.
